About Us

Whether you are looking for your first horse or a fine breeding prospect, we are honored you’ve stopped by and happy to show you around. At Arctic Morgans, we take great pride in our horses and are committed to the morgans of yesterday.

All of our horses are 100% foundation or very high percentage foundation bloodlines. If you are new to morgans, there is a lot of information out there on foundation morgans but the cliff notes version is that the bloodlines must have no modern outcrosses (ie Saddlebred) since 1930 and the topline traces back to Justin Morgan. And before anyone gets too offended, we will note that the foundation construct was developed by a group of breeders concerned with preserving the breed, independent of the American Morgan Horse Association. Typical outcross horses to look for in the pedigrees are Upway King Peavine, Admiral Denmark, Hudson, Polly Forrest, Forrest Whirlwind, Barrymore McDonald, Rex Barrymore and Rex Peavine.  See www.foundationmorganhorse.com for more background.

At Arctic Morgans, we are committed to preserving the foundation morgan bloodlines while maintaining a critical eye for type, substance and temperament. Most of our mares are 100% foundation, from the revered Triple S breeding program in Nebraska. The Triple S Morgans founders, Bob and Jan Painter, spent their lives preserving the best of foundation bloodlines and gave generously of their time to us and many other morgan enthusiasts over the years. The Painters produced stellar horses that typified the quiet mind, soundness and ranch performance excellence of the western working morgan. We stand one full foundation stallion and three very high percentage stallions. Please note that our percentage calculations are a best effort at quantification, but subject to error based on the tedium of research!

If you are a breeder, we can guarantee you that breeding to one of our horses, or purchasing one to continue breeding at home, will ensure you have some of the highest caliber western and foundation bloodlines available. As a horse enthusiast, an Arctic Morgans horse will give you some of the best of the morgan breed, and the knowledge that you are aiding in recognizing, promoting and preserving the foundation morgan horse.

Why A Morgan?

There are a lot of horses in the world, and many options when you are looking for a horse. In many areas, you can find people giving their horses away, or selling them for next to nothing.

Given that, it is obviously advisable to purchase a decent horse that you will trust, cherish and enjoy.  And that is where the morgan comes into consideration. The morgan is known as America’s first horse, and the breed originated with one very fine bay stallion born in 1789. Named Figure, he came to be known by his owner’s name, Justin Morgan. Morgan horses contributed some of the best attributes to many of the horse breeds later developed in the US, including quarter horses and paints, Tennessee walkers, and Standardbreds.
